Bridging The Gap was held at Stockbridge Library, Edinburgh, in November 2016. The exhibition celebrated Edinburgh’s extensive bridge network, showing how even the simplest footbridge is integral to life in Scotland’s capital. My photographs captured a unique sense of time and place—from tranquil river scenes to harsh industrial settings—highlighting the city’s diverse bridges. Timed to coincide with the opening of the new Queensferry Crossing, the project began 18 months earlier when artist Cai Conduct and I visited locations across Edinburgh to photograph each bridge. Some remain well-known, others less so, but all connect communities and spark imagination, travel, and exchange. The exhibition also featured a soundscape and film by Eugene McDonald, black-and-white relief prints and a bridge map by Criss Roden, and an artist talk by Camila Cavalcante. Designed for both locals and visitors, the exhibition was a great success, engaging audiences of all ages.
