"Edinburgh People" was my first try at portrait photography as a blind photographer. I wanted to celebrate the everyday people who live and work in Edinburgh - those who make a real difference in the life of the city, often without getting much recognition.
The portraits include a wide mix of people: the Poet Laureate of Edinburgh, my local taxi driver, our friend Michael who teaches geography and is the quizmaster of our weekly pub quiz, and Xana, an actress helping out in her mum’s jewellery shop. Each portrait grew out of a real conversation. I spoke with each person before taking their picture, so the images tell part of our shared story.
As someone who depends on others in many parts of my daily life, I wanted to remind us how deeply connected we all are, and that every person and every job plays an important part in the bigger picture.
Through Edinburgh People, I wanted to remind others not to take for granted the people around us—the ones who quietly keep our lives and communities moving.
